IZIP has a wide range of E-bikes to choose from. When a hill comes in sight, then the E-bike part becomes evident and welcome. Yet, with the panniers covering the battery it doesn’t show-off its electric boost to the whole world. Sure the Path has a couple wires showing here and there. Many E-bikes just are so bulky, over stated and gaudy. Once again, E-bikes don’t usually have this feature. With San Diego in the background, you might notice how content I seem with the Path.īack to the light-weight riding feel. I have a couple vintage college bikes that I ride quite a bit and this E3 Path is the closest I’ve come to those on any E-bike I’ve ridden. The moustache style bars and sit-up straight posture of the bike are something that makes me feel good. And I enjoy the good old-fashioned feel it shows on every ride. It can really stretch its legs and eats up the miles easily. I have taken it out for some long rides on my own and just can’t get over how much it differs from most of the E-bike market. That bike comes in a very similar color combo, with a more bluish frame and baby blue trim. IZIP offers it in a low-frame model too, and that would probably fit her better. She is a little more into the non-powered exercise thing than me, and this bike has made her happy. My wife has used it for a couple of our group rides and she normally leaves the power off and just pedals. I’ve had this Path for longer than most E-bikes I test, just over two months. A kickstand and a vintage saddle say bike too. Unlike some other E-bikes, the rack is fully usable, as it surrounds the battery, not just supports it. The dual chain guard does the same for your pants. A matching painted set of fenders cover them to keep the ugly off your body and clothes. The tubes are Slimed to help with flat control. The tall 700c wheels and tires add to the easy rolling of the Path. Pacific Beach was just one of the many places the IZIP E3 Path took me. They stop the bike well and work like you expect disc brakes to work. If you are used to brakes that only work when you really grab a lot of lever, then these will be your favorite new excitement. If there is one concern that I have with letting people try out this E-bike, it’s that the brakes work so well.

They are very effective and modulate smoothly. Other than the electric package, the modern disc brakes lend to today’s times. On this IZIP, that is a concern that doesn’t cross my mind. Many E-bikes are so heavy or just generally poor performers in the regular bike mode I would be quite worried to be on the road if the battery charge got depleted. On some bikes I will try this with the battery removed and on the Path it (the battery) is so light that it really makes little difference. One of the factors I consider and test for on all E-bikes is how they ride without the power engaged. With the motor mostly hidden by the seven-speed drivetrain, it even looks more like a regular bicycle. You have 7 gears to choose from, with 1 st gear being extra low to help on the steeper climbs. The shifting is also simple with a handlebar mounted twist-shift. Carefree comfort and pedaling are yours whether you use the power-assist or not. Riding it is a pleasure that takes me back to my youth. A sleek frame, decent components, a light-weight feel and a up-right seating position are part of that. The smoothness and the feel of the throttle is so much better than almost every E-bike I ride. One switch is for the power on/off, one is for the pedelec feature (when activated, the motor will come to about half power when you are pedaling) and the throttle will work the motor whenever you feel the need. Two switches and a half throttle (it only covers half of the hand grip area) are all you need to master. The Path has a very simple set of controls that run the show. That’s what I’ve done with this one I’m riding. And that battery, a set of pannier bags will hide it from view and add some extra utility. The power-assist system is light, high-quality and works great. Even though more voltage can be a factor in more power, it isn’t nearly as important as having a correctly matched group of components. The battery and control system is a 24 volt package. Decked out with a BikeSmart pannier, lights and bell, the E3 Path has all you need going for it.
